The Route 22 Cup began as an idea between two friends, Matt Suchan and Joe Wible, at Ferguson’s Pub in Huntingdon. The discussion started as a Huntingdon Bearcats vs. Mount Union Trojans “Ryder Cup” style event. They reached out to Bruce Smith from Mount Union to help set up the event, and the idea grew into a tournament between the members of American Legion Country Club and Huntingdon Country Club.

The event spread quickly between the two clubs and their members. It was built as a two-day event, with each day hosted by one of the clubs. Each course nominated several captains, who organized the field by pairing members as closely by handicap as possible to keep the matches fair. The weekend finishes with a total of 28 points available, and the team with the most points wins the traveling trophy.
